First Day continued

Following the Ghetto Heroes Square we drove short distance to the forced labor camp at Plaszow. Established in 1941 as a labor camp on the grounds of an interwar Jewish cemetery for Polish prisoners, Plaszow was converted into a camp for Jewish prisoners in 1942. Between 8-10,000 Jews were killed there. Thios March the camp was vandalized by locals who wrote Hitler is Good and other Jewish slogans on the monuments. The vandalism was cleaned up for arrival. The camp was alos notorious for the cruel commandmant Amon Goethe who delighted in torturing the Jewish prisoners as well as being the camp that imprisoned the Jews on Schindler's list. As you can see in the picture we were a little disturbed that some locals decided that because of its hilly location, Plaszow was an ideal spot for kite flyng today.
